Cambodia - Top 5 Things to do

Cambodia - Top 5 Things to do

1. Visit Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap

Ankor Wat Temple, Cambodia

Angkor Wat Temple is by far the most famous attraction in Cambodia. It is the oldest hindu temple in the history of mankind. Angkor Wat was a largest city in the world during 12th century. Ideally, I would recommend a full day trip to the Angkor Wat Temple as its huge and also known for the best sunset view.

2. Visit Cultural Village in Siem Reap

Cultural Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cultural village was a surprise visit for us during our stay in Siem Reap as we didn't know what to expect until we reach there. This village basically organises 5-6 cultural programs in a day showcasing Cambodian culture in general. One can get to see different aspects of Cambodian culture through programs like Royal Wedding Reception, Finding a fiancee, Traditional Peacock Dance, etc.

Note: For each cultural program, the crew choose one foreigner from the audience and involve them during the program!!

3. Pub crawling at Pub Street, Siem Reap

Famous party spot in Cambodia

Apart from ancient temples, Siem Reap also offers ample number of pubs as well. There is a famous area known as Pub Street in Siem Reap which obviously has Pubs on both sides of the street. It lights up during night with travellers from different countries and hardcore loud party music. Its like a open house party. Few pubs don't even charge anything for entry. Pub street also has restaurants which serve local Cambodian food, however I would recommend small street vendors for eating as its cheap and tasty as well. Pub street must be visited while travelling in Cambodia.

4. Eat famous Crab dish for dinner

Crab rice for dinner in Siem Reap

Cambodian food has majority of sea food dishes which excites lot of travellers like us. Sea food has a huge influence over Cambodian cuisine. During our stay in Cambodia, we tried most of their sea food dishes and for our delight Crab rice was the highlight of our food tours. I would definitely recommend it for a dinner time.

5. Visit Killing Fields in Phnom Penh

Killing Fields in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

This is a place where over million Cambodians were killed and buried by Khmer Rouge regime during 1970-80. Now it is a visitor site which also has a museum describing the history of this event. It has mass graves of millions killed. This place has various sites dedicated for each activity (like bringing people to the field, executing people with different weapons, etc.) where travellers can go and understand how it was all executed. It's not a pleasant site to watch but shall be visited once during the day.
