Back in 2017 when I was travelling across Belgium during Christmas; I got to know about this weird fascination of Belgians with Pissing statues. Yes, you read that right! I went on a walking tour early morning to explore Brussels and little did I know that I was up for a sensational surprise statue right in the middle of the city and unexpectedly so popular amongst fellow travellers! Look at the crowd gathering around this naked boy below;
'Manneken Pis' is the most famous statue in Brussels, basically a naked boy urinating into a fountain's basin. It's the most visited attraction in Brussels and travellers are strangely excited to get a picture alongside this naked boy.
By the way, it's not just a naked boy thats hanging around in open. He's got a sister too! I was freaked out when our walking tour guide told us that this naked boy has a naked sister too who (you would have already figured out by now!) also likes to urinate in open. You think I am lying? See it for yourself below!
Jeanneke Pis is naked boy's little sister; relatively unknown to travellers compared to naked boy; properly guarded by iron bars unlike her big brother to protect it from getting tampered by travellers.
All across Brussels you will end up seeing different variations of this Manneken Pis statue. See the below statue that we saw inside one of the desert shops inspired from Manneken;
And this one right outside the shop minding his own business inside a bucket!
Prior to visiting Brussels, I was under the impression that Belgium was best known for its desert waffles and hot frites; however, that misunderstanding was soon corrected by these lovely statues! I mean, look at me; how happy do I look taking a picture along side this statue;
I am sure you must have found this silly story rather funny! I was laughing too when I saw these statues for the first time. Let me know if you had come across such weird or strange things while travelling anywhere. I am sure there must be plenty of such weird stuff existing in the world. Happy travelling!
